Netscape Navigator

I had no idea but after reading this article at BBC New I was saddened to hear that AOL will no longer be supporting Netscape Navigator as of March 1, 2008 (yeah today!). Man what sad news. Netscape Navigator was my first portal to the thing that is the internet.

Seeing it gone now, brings back old memories like using it for porn~er um I mean research papers and studying during the infancy of the internet. That and downloading a sound file, that was 200 Kb, from Nintendo Power of Mario saying “Hello Ima Mario!” took freaking 7 hours on my dial-up! Looks like the top usage graph at Wikipedia was in 1996 - 1997 when it had 80% of the browser market.

You can watch the video here from BBC. I am not quite too sure who that lady is in that video. I am sure she is super smart, but okay lets not avoid the pink elephant in the room here. WHAT IS UP WITH YOUR HAIR! I really don’t mean to be mean but common dude is one side of her head shaved? I’m sorry, I totally didn’t follow a thing you said the first time I watched that video cause I was too fixated on your hair!

Oh, P.S, for you young ones, those black things in front of the Netscape Navigator box are called “floppy disks“.

I loved Netscape and used it through AOL as well. I’m not too tech saavy, but I always felt that it was easier to use and ran better than internet explorer.
